Refusal to pay a claim
I took a policy with 1 life in 2016 and set to commence on 01 June 2016. The policy lapsed on 05 June 2023 due to missed premiums. I was contacted by the retentions department to offer an opportunity to reinstate the policy and the agreed upon reinstatement date was 01 July 2023. I then changed my debit order date to the 15th of every month. I was given an opportunity to pay all the outstanding premiums and promised if I do so the 6 months waiting period will be waved. My debit order for the 15 July returned as unpaid as I did not know that I was supposed to start paying from the 15th June and not 15th July. I then opted to go for double debit for the 15th July 2023. On the 15th July the debit order did not go through, but there were funds in my account to accommodate for the double debit. I have bank statements to prove such, the debit order only went through on the 17th July which is not my problem as I was expecting it to deduct on the 15th July since it fell on a Saturday. I checked the option of paying the outstanding premium on the app and it was still available . I then proceeded and made payment 15th July via the app as it was still available and I continued to process the payment on my app and paid all premiums from April 2023. I then called the 1 life to verify if the waiting would be waived, the lady confirmed via telephone call and email that indeed the waiting period will be waived. Unfortunately, one of the dependents passed on and when submitting the claim, It was rejected due to the fact that the debit order went off on the 17th not 15th which in not my problem and also the outstanding premiums reached the system on the 20th while I processed everything on the 15th. I feel that I am treated unfairly after years of loyalty with the compony they are rejecting my claim because to technical issues that I did not have control over.
