No Care for the Disabled
This is quite a saddening one, my disabled uncle who is under the care of my mother seems to have an active life insurance that was taken without his consent.
He cannot give consent because he is mute, and completely disabled. We’ve been back and forth with 1Life we have been asked to provide rather intrusive medical documents and affidavit to confirm that he is not in a state to open any kind of agreement in his own capacity. All of this was done without much resolve.
It would appear that my unemployed uncle has been named as a beneficiary and he would need to give consent for any amendments to this policy, including having the banking details of the policy amended to which he is refusing to cooperate.
That is not even the sad part, the policy premiums are being deducted from my disabled SASSA disability grant affecting his livelihood and putting him in financial detriment. The caregiver has agreed for the policy to continue on the basis that premiums are collected from the beneficiary as an alternative to cancelling this policy as 1Life seems more interested in retaining this business than ensuring the livelihood of a disabled person who is on a disability government grant as he cannot work for himself.
Really disgusting if you ask me. When does any justice happen to people who cannot fight themselves and where does the business draw the line between what they claim be a process of theirs if it is to the care and consideration of a disabled person who needs every single cent provided to him by the government to ensure his well being.
Really disappointed.
