************* insurers taking clients for a ride

I took out a funeral policy for my mother in law at 1Life in August 2023. My mother in law sadly passed away on 12 February 2024 and 1Life refused to pay out because they say 'my mother in law passed away within the waiting period of 6 months. By the time my mother in law passed away, 1Life has already collected 6 deductions via debit and 3 days later, on the 15th of February, would've been the 7th deduction, but they maneuvered the debit to only debit my account minus my mother in law's contribution. Funny how this is possible when it suits them but when we request a cancelation of a debit within 7 days, then its not possible. Then their fine print on their website indicates that 'if you already are a funeral policy member and changes policies, the waiting period won't apply if you have already completed the waiting period on the previous policy". I had a previous policy at Sanlam since July 2015, so the waiting period expired in December 2015. They still refused to pay our. Needless to say, 1Life still refuses to pay out the funeral claim. Just show us not to trust just any insurer. I'm planning to move my 2 policies at 1Life to Hollard or any other trustworthy insurer I have dealt with before

Time will tell if 1Life really care about any life insured. Maybe they must be rebranded 0Life. The good reviews only centre's around 1 person but the bad outweighs thr good. Imagine having funeral cover but having to borrow money to bury your loved one

When my sister, ***nor Kohen, passed away in 2021, 1Life came to my rescue even though they only paid out on the afternoon of the funeral. With my mother in law's passing on 12 February 2024, 1Life changed from hero to zero, when they refused to pay out, knowing very well that they have violated their very own fine print and waiting period rules when it comes to members who changed policies. The stress got too much as I landed in cardiac icu due to an SVT (Supra Ventricular Tachycardia). 1 week later I underwent 3 heart procedures in Cape Town called Electrophysiological Study, Electrophysiological Mapping and Radio Frequency Ablation. I'm still paying the cardiologist and anaesthetist shortfalls not covered by the medical aid. Couple that with 1Life's problem, cause I'm still repaying the debt i borrowe to bury my mother in law. Now do you see how strongly I feel about 1Life's uncaring and selfish ways? Had 1Life paid out, all this wouldn't have happened.
