************** against Women - First for Women

I've been a client of First for Women for years - and have both household insurance as well as life policy cover. They sell themselves as being "pro women" - thats their marketing pitch. In July 2014 I took out life insurance with this company( as part of the requirement of taking out a home loan/ mortgage). In November 2014 I was diagnosed with thyroid disease & take chronic medication to control it. In January 2016 I had a baby girl & recently wanted to increase my life insurance due to my expanded family responsibilities. I read my policy documentation which advised I need to contact First for Women to advise them of any changes - which I did. I also advised them that I had been diagnosed with Chronic disease and that I wished to increase my policy coverage. I was advised this wouldNOT be a problem to increase the benefits amount and that my diagnosis of chronic disease AFTER having taken out a policy with them meant that my policy would NOT be affected by chronic disease diagnosis & the consultant advised the new premium amount for the increased benefits / coverage amount - I agreed all was in order. I was then sent an "updated" contract and First for Women added an exclusion clause basically stating that they would NOT pay out in the event of a death whatsoever related to thryroid disease ( treatment/ medications related to thyroid disease etc). Since one could argue that any death could be related to long term chronic medication or to thyroid disease or chronic disease I find this unacceptable. 1] First for Women had done a pre-assessment prior to my taking out a policy, 2] I did NOT agree to these policy changes/ Clauses which they tried to add to my contract 3] they are refusing to correct the contract 4] they refuse to address my complaint and have a manager contact me to resolve this 5] they had a call center operator call me and advise that I had requested my contract to be cancelled!

Dear "First for Women" - I have brought this to your attention in writing several times in the last week. You refuse to respond, or address the issue you have created and you refuse to have a manager call me as requested. You have had one call centre agent call me to tell me that I instructed my policy be cancelled?! I.e. you are trying to sneak in clauses, make changes to my policy without my consent and when I addressed it in writing your response was to try attempt to cancel my contract?! Disgusting to say the least. And now your staff are posting on Face book stating that my policy number is incorrect... and then claiming that they tried to call me/ don't have contact details for me - my cell phone number has been the same for 19 years.... by pretending that you are dealing with this on social media platforms yet in reality you do NOTHING to address the issue/ correct my contract leaves me with no choice but to involve the Ombudsman and to keep taking this to Social Media platforms until you correct my policy to what it was prior to your trying to change it without my agreement nor my consent.
