Disappointed client
Monday last week i contacted 1life to find out if i could make a claim for my deceased aunt who passed away on Saturday. I also wanted to make use of the repatriation benefit. I was told to contact FMS and that when I have a death certificate i should contact claims. The repatriation process was started and on Tuesday morning i recieved the death certificate and contacted claims again. I was requested to provide the necessary documents and I emailed them Tuesday night. Wednesday morning I called to find out if the documents were received and everything in order and this was confirmed. Thursday I waited for a call and didn't receive any. Friday morning i decided to call and was told the claim had been finalised and that an assessor will contact me she was still in a meeting. I waited the whole day and eventually after 2pm i decided to make the call myself. I was forwarded to the assessor and she told me my claim had been declined because although I had paid six months premiums my aunt had to have been active for six months and that she will be removed from the policy. When I asked then if that's the case how was the repatriation benefit processed she said she doesn't know. Mind you this is just a day before the proposed day for the funeral. I then called cancellations because of my disappointment wanting to cancel all policies I have with 1Life. At cancellations I spoke with Kyle who then asked my reason for wanting to cancel the policy. I explained it to him and he requested that I give him time to forward the claim to evaluations and he will contact me with feedback Saturday or before close of business yesterday. Saturday he called to tell me he hadn't yet received feedback yesterday i received no call. Today I called again and he confirmed that the policy will not be paying out due to my aunt not finishing six months even though this was her sixth month. When I asked about the repatriation benefit being processed he explained to me that this benefit is not depended on the waiting period because it's not money deducted from the cover. This was news to me because my understanding of the policy is that everything goes together. So when i asked if then that's the case can I still apply for the tombstone benefit he said no, which is truly confusing because without me taking the policy there is no repatriation benefit. How would a repatriation benefit apply for the policy if the policy it's under hasn't reached the required waiting period. As sad as I am and angry as i was with decision I've decided to not cancel the policy based on Kyle's explanation and I hope to God that it is true because I am not working my aunt wasn't working yet I continued to pay the policy without fail because i thought it'll help if anything happens. No one knows when anyone will pass away or if i had known I would have asked God to wait until October finished but as is I'm in the position I'm in. I would have assumed that when I called on Monday to begin the whole thing I would have been told no you can't claim for your aunt instead of letting me go through all that process only for the claim to be rejected. This is an experience I wouldn't want anyone else to go through ever again. Thank you so much for 1Life for multiplying my pain!
