Declined LiFe Policy No *** : W K Metu

My partner William Kolisile Metu Policy No. *** with 1Life passed away on 22/1/15, he left us with a sum of R200 000. with 1life me and his wife E T Metu, I was nominated as a the one to Claim. after a month processing the claim I was told that the Life policy was changed to be an Accidental Policy. I asked for Audio tapes resulted to that and on receipt of them I was so shocked that only in 2014, when Mr Metu was sick in and out hospitals 1Life called him about three times asking him questions that confused him, questions that were not asked on the day he took the policy in 2007. Lastly he was called that his policy has been changed to Accidental, how could that be, why by the time he was sick, he even told them that he is in and out hospitals, how can a pensioner and a sick man given an Accidental Policy after so many years paying for the life policy? I had the same policy which we took together, till todate I was never called by 1life asked questions that he was asked whilst he was sick. I need your help that 1Life should reverse that decision and pay the beneficiaries the R200 000. please. We made some debts for the funeral, and made some loans hoping to pay back. HELP

Hello pgongxoza,

Thank you for bring this matter to our attention.

I have been informed that a consultant has contacted you.

As discussed, the Late Mr Metu entered into an agreement for a Life Insurance policy with 1Life which commenced on the 01st March 2007. As per the policy terms and conditions, the life assured was required to complete an HIV test on or before the 01st June 2007, the test was not received and the life insurance policy was converted to an Accidental Death Benefit only. The required HIV test was only completed on the 24th March 2011, outside of the required timeframe. When the results were received 1Life needed to reassess the Late Mr Metu's risk in order to convert the policy to an Elevated Life Insurance policy. Based on the information provided during the reassessment, we were unable to provide the cover wanted and the policy remained on an Accidental Death Benefit.

On the 28th March 2014, the Late Mr M Metu contacted 1Life to query the status of his policy, on this day he was made aware that he is only covered for accidental causes.
We would like to extend our sincerest condolences for the loss of your loved one.

Yours sincerely,
Kenan Angrik.
