Claim rejected but no phone call to Beneficiary

My mother has been with this insurance since 2015. She put through a claim for my father last week Tuesday and nobody called her. When i went to their office they told me that the claim was Rejected due to non payments for 2019 but my mother continued to pay. My question is when a person doesn't pay for 3 months isn't the insurance supposed to be discontinued. Why did they still accept pay knowing very well that when she claims she wint ger a cent. This was my mothers first claim. This is day light *******. All the money that my mother paid since 2015 if she was saving it, it would have been enough to bury my father. I am so disappointed. Whats worse is the fact that nobody called her to inform her that the claim was rejected. Even today they haven't called her.
