Be very careful of online auctioneers called 101 Auctions.

I have registered to buy a very specific Retro Kitchen Cabinet on live auction from 101Auctions in Brackenvelle Cape Town today. The auction run live on their app called 101Auctions closed just after 16h00 today. I made my first bid at R1600 and then throughout the day approaching 16h00 kept increasing my bid by increments of R50 each time. I eventually realized that I was chasing a pre determined arranged price. I really wanted to buy this item so I kept bidding until I reached the amount of R3000 at which time the counter bidding stopped. I then spent the last 30 minutes leading up to the closing time looking at the bidding screen to make sure I wasnt outdid with seconds to go. I waited convinced that my R3000 bid was the highest offer because the 101 Auctions app stipulated that my bid was the one to be outbid and mine was R3000. On the second the bidding closed lot nr 53 appeared as sold and I was extatic that I had bought the item I wanted. But then to my great disgust I was informed that I was not the succrssful bidder and that the person who had done the pre determination of the price which I chased was indeed the new owner of my Retro Kitchen Unit. Upon phoning the owner known to me only as Johan, his wife answered the call only to inform me that she understands my disgust which quickly turned into anger from my side but that was just the way things worked. I tried to get Johan to respond seeing that I was told my call was on speaker phone and he was listening but he did not utter a word. So I lost lot 53 bidding the highest bid visible and willing to bid more if needed to, for R50. This purely because this obviously seriously flawed app called 101auctions did not allow me to keep bidding past the pre arranged price. I think this is well worth warning the public about seeing that the owner agrees that the system is flawed, that this had happened in the past and is obviously not willing to fix it. Why I cannot for the life of me understand because surely if I can keep on bidding they make more money. Their commision is after all 17% of the highest bid. I am immediatly removing the 101Auctions app from my phone and will spread this message as far as I can. May I end by warning you to be careful of these type of businesses and their way of doing business. My next step will include finding out if Auctioneers in South Africa are regulated by some association so this practice and this business can be reported there as well. Thank you.
