HTC Desire Z in for repair 3 times/liquid damage??

I sent my HTC Desire Z (under warranty) in for repair in December 2011. The touch screen had stopped responding after the battery had run flat. I was instructed to collect the device a couple of weeks later. It wouldn't switch on, so I sent it back in immediately. Later it came back again. This time the operating system was able to boot but it got stuck in a loop on the HTC logo. So I immediately sent it back again.

Now I've been charged R188.10 for an "assessment" from the repair centre, where they have determined that the cause is liquid damage. This is highly suspicious. My phone has never been near liquid. It seems they have bricked the phone. They never addressed the original problem. The repair centre is Allied Mobile.

I need my phone urgently as I am a freelance web developer, so this is obviously highly inconvenient for me. I've had to buy a Samsung in the mean time while this phone gets sent around the country.

My advice to Virgin Mobile is they deal with a more reputable repair company or replace smart phones that have hardware issues. Simply flashing the OS of a smartphone does not fix every problem, and blaming everything on water damage is not acceptable.

CUSTOMER'S FEEDBACK ljsiedle Time and Date 10:42:44 | Fri 17 Feb 12
Not Impressed: Received a cut and paste response from Virgin Mobile. I sent an email asking several questions which they did not bother to respond to.

They are charging me R188 for a phone that is still under warranty for an "assessment" after their repair centre technician failed to repair the touch screen problem and bricked the phone.

Was instructed to take it elsewhere or to the manufacturer at my own expense.

VM customer care has always been non-existent. I'm really not surprised about this.
