Contract cancelled but not cancelled

I was a virgin active member, i cancelled my contract last year and the lady told me that all was fine. After about nine months i then receive a call advising me that owe them R2600. What i do not understand is why were they quiet for almost 9 months and no one even called to advise me that my contract is still on. What i am really upset is that i now have to pay for a service that i never received. Is that fair?

Thank you very much for chatting to me this afternoon,

As discussed you requested cancellation of your contract while it was still in its initial period and we therefore require payment of a 30% cancellation fee and any arrears.

The cancellation fee payment was not received by Virgin Active and thus your contract continued and was canceled in order to prevent further arrears from accruing.

We tried contacting you on numerous occasions and sent letters to the address we have loaded for you. As confirmed by yourself you no longer live at this address.

As per your request I will listen to the call between yourself and our call center agent to understand exactly what information was given to you and will then revert back to you with feedback.
