Power steering dead after car jump started

On 17 December 2011 i took my car to Tip Top Tyres & Exhaust to have the front shock mountings replaced. This was after i had taken my car in for to change the front tyres. When the car was lowered from the hoist it would not start because the battery was dead after it had been left on for the duration of the labour. They used a battery pack to boost my car and immediately the car started the power steering light was permanently on. They tried resetting the computer box by disconnecting the battery but the light would not go off. They did the wheel alignment but the problem was not solved. I promised to take it to VW and after diagnosis and resetting nothing was solved. I told them and they promised to call me back, which they never did. I took my car back to them and met with Barnard the manager. He told me the owner was in Cape Town on holiday but he was going to communicate with him. He told me next time that he had filled in the claim forms and was waiting for the insurance. I was asked to take the car to VW for diagnosis and print out. After waiting for so long they are now denying responsibility. "It can't be proven that they broke my car". I just want my car fixed.

Hello bothanat,

On 16 December 2011, Mr Botha brought his car in to have the shock mountings replaced. He pulled the car onto the lift and brought the spares himself. The car was on the lift between 2 and 3 hrs. By this time the battery was dead. This in itself proves an electrical fault on the vehicle. We had to jump start the car using a SABS approved battery pack. We paid for the test at Volkswagen and submitted the report to our insurance. They declined the claim because we took all the necessary precautions.
Tip Top Tyres has arranged with Volkswagen Silverlakes to repair the vehicle at our cost. Mr Botha was informed to book the car in at VW Silverlakes.
CUSTOMER'S FEEDBACK bothanat Time and Date 11:41:21 | Thu 22 Mar 12
Utterly Disgusted: I took my car to Silver Lakes as per arrangement by Tip Top Tyres. It was checked and i got a quotation R30 121.52 which i was not happy with. I then took it to Mcarthy VW in Wonderboom. They kept it for 3 days tracing the problem. Today they told me it would cost R22 016.38 to fix. I conveyed the message to Tip Top Tyres and the owner told me he does not have that kind of money. Now i am stuck with a faulty car.  An SABS approved battery pack does not mean it is perfect.
