I would like to share my Telkom experience. I had a Telkom telephone line (weekender plus) together with a MWEB ADSL service running from my former home in Glenwood, Durban. I had no complaints - that is until I tried to cancel the line! I moved the 26th of December to a new area to a house with an existing line and tried to cancel my Telkom line whilst moving the ADSL service to the new Telkom line - what a hassle. I requested my Telkom service to be suspended or blocked for this period as I did not want the new tenants to use the line and run up additional costs. I was giving the run around from Telkom to Mweb to Telkom and back saying that the line first had to be transferred etc. However my complaint is this. Finally after 3 weeks of trying to sort out this transfer, I managed to get Telkom to cancel my line with immediate effect. This the sales person said will be done but Telkom still has to bill me for February month as I need to give 30days notice. I do not agree with this at all. I have not used the Telkom service for the whole of Jan; I cannot use the service for Feb and still I pay??? Unacceptable! Does the new Consumer Protection Act not apply in these cases? |
