Minimum Purchase Amount

I went to Candyland in Eastgate shopping centre and tried to present my Visa card for an amount of R 37.95. I was informed that they do not take cards for amounts less than R 50. I work in the banking industry, and know that this is illegal and is in contravention of Visa and MasterCard regulations. Please contact the merchant (a standard bank merchant) to let them know that they are in breach of these rules and that should they not rectify this practice, I will report them to Visa and MasterCard and will have their merchant services revoked. I will be visiting the store in 2 weeks, to check that this has been corrected. Thanks

Hello hurlstri,

Thank you for your patience and allowing us to investigate your matter.

Please be advised we have made contact ct with the owner and advised him of the complaint. He has agreed to cooperate and will advise his Candy land stores to accept all valid cards presented by cardholders, irrespective of the value of purchase.

I have explained the MasterCard / Visa Regulations to him.

Over the Moon: I found them to be prompt and their response to be satisfactory. I will go into the store to confirm that it has been rectified, but I trust that Standard Bank have done their best.
