Staff shortage

I have become accustomed to shopping at the Morningside branch of Pick 'n Pay where I have, until today, experienced friendly and efficient staff. I believe that was because the Manageress was frequently visible and interacted with the clients whilst keeping her finger on the pulse. Today, however, there was only one packer for four open tills and the pressured cashiers were having to organise trolleys and pack parcels in addition to just manning the tills. I went to the Customer Care counter to find out whether more packers could be allocated and the only member of staff there was busy on the telephone. In the meantime, the casual car guards saw the gap and took it upon themselves to become the "packers" and trolley finders... for a fee of course! I pitied the poor cashier who tried her best to cope and remain calm simultaneously. Surely a big establishment like this has a backup system in place for times like these?

Quite Impressed: Well done, Customer Service @ Pick 'n Pay! I received THREE phone calls of apology and explanation within 24 hours. The Manager of Morningside branch was particularly charming and gave assurances that a solution is in hand. I appreciate your calls ;-)
