Scanright Policy???

My mother-in-law, my wife and me went shopping at the PnP Cherry Lane, Pretoria at around 14H00. My mother-in-law bought something and at the till the price was R 10 more then on the shelf price. I was also at another check-out at the same time and bought other products, one of which also had an incorrect price. Initially the staff seemed to be willing to give us the articles at the lower price, as they fetched the corresponding shelf talker price ticket. I mentioned the scanright policy and was then given my first purchase free and the subsequent products at the lower price. My mother-in-law however had another battle as she was told that she would only get the first article free is she bought another one at the lower price. She purchased a bird-feeder and I mentioned that the scanright policy mentions that the first product is free. After some issues my mother-in-law did finally get her article for free as the price was incorrect. I would like to know if the PnP staff is adequately trained regarding the scanright policy? Why throw all the issues at us? I am only standing my ground based upon PnP policy...
