Builders Warehouse - Damaged Goods - ALVA indoor gas heater

Initial Report
I recently bought an ALVA gas heater from builders warehouse in woodhill. After several hours worth of struggling I failed to get the heater working. This is becoming a habit of buying something from builders warehouse and NEVER having it work first time round. A return and exchange is becoming the norm!!!!!

Previously this included garden shearers that broke on day one of being used.

The attitude is always the same, waiting to have the item refunded and then exchanged. Just once I would like a product that works correctly without returns being necessary.

Company Response
24th May 2012, 1:16pm

Hello LSPLSN,

Hn Barnard Development Projects - Poor quality materials and workmanship - Tiles popping due to poor quality and skill

I bought a house from the developer HN Barnard Development Projects cc in June 2010. Shortly thereafter the patches of tiles started to loosen. In January 2012 the tiles in an entire room just popped and lifted off the floor. I contacted the developer, he "rectified" the problem. Portions were retiled but the quality was poor, tiles were not level. In April 2012 the tiles in another room and bathroom lifted. The developer's attitude was, it's not his fault but at my cost they would be willing to help. I employed a tiler whose opinion was that poor quality material was used, insufficient bonding adhesive could be the problem as the tiles that pop come clean off the floor while the cement remains bonded to the floor. These rooms were rectified. Barely two weeks later, the room that was retiled by the developer in January just popped up again. I have invested a lot in this house and due to the quality of materials used and the poor skill and workmanship of the tilers that the developer subcontracts to I am at a loss. I live in fear of tiles falling or lifting, it's costing me a lot to replace, I am loosing time off work, my furniture and fitted cupboards are getting damaged

Builders Warehouse - Pricing / Barcodes - Builders Warehouse is useless

Initial Report
For years now, this store has not been able to get their pricing right. There is always a difference when you get to the till point and the price that is scanned is more than the price reflected. This causes back up at the tills with everyone running around trying to find bar codes. I have complained to the manager, Tony, on numerous occasions and he always blames head office for the problem. For two years he had chipboard shelving without pricing right in front of the door to his office, which indicates how seriously he views this problem. If their staff stopped fooling around and did some actual work like checking bar codes, the problem might be solved. I have complained to their customer care section and never get a response. I have filled in the forms about their service and never get a response. Also, their stock situation is terrible. Once a line on a shelf is empty, it can take months before it is filled again. They have no idea about how to manage a store. They have a monopoly in the industry and so I am forced to get my supplies from them, but it is the most frustrating experience. I had hoped that after Wallmart took over that things would change, but they have not.

Company Response
23rd May 2012, 8:48am

Hello Karl,

Buildmore Africa Group - Breach of Contract - Breach of contract

Mr Chris Wagner was the responsible person, signing the tender document (which he now denies). The wasted time by not being on site for days. Nine working days from having to pay penalties, and very little having been done on site, he argued because I would not release payment for messy work, incorrect work, etc. As far as I am concerned he realised he would not be able to complete the project, and would therefor run into penalties. He left a Zimbabwean team on site, and would only pop in once a week for about 10 minutes. He just broke contract, packed up his team last Friday, leaving the place in a total mess. There is not one tile that does not have splashes of paint or even cement on it. The windows and sliding doors are full of cement. The toilets and basins were left in a filthy dirty state. Please do not fall in the same trap as I did.
