Iburst cancellation & monthly costs the same...

Having had an iburst account for 16 Months, and not having used this ridiculous service because the only time you manage to recieve more than parked-on-the-high-traffic-jam-speed it's when you are at work i.e. mornings, (clearly their services are not designed for high volumes although i think the only people who are using are those who don't know any better) I asked to finally cancel it.
I realise there is a contract and a cancellation fee. But as I am paying the amount that comes off my account with no additional usage every month for no service and no benefit (other than a little black dust collector on my desk they call a modem). The cancellation will cost me the same as just paying the contract fee every month. They love to punt the Consumer protection act only came into use in March 2011 therefore we are excempt from it if we opened the account before. But how ridiculous that I will be paying the amount i would be paying anyway upfront so that they can now have the advantage of the time based cost of money. This is not fair. If i want to pay them off then let me at least see some saving in the amount owed. I'll wait for the "manager" to call. not holding my breath.
