The ongoing bus strike has prevented me from utilising my monthly pass, so I requested a refund. The response I received, in writing, was: "We regret to inform you that the Gauteng Provincial Government, Bombela Concession Company and Bombela Operating Company will not compensate Gautrain travellers who fail to use period product trips due to any reason what so ever. We continue to be committed to providing you and all of our customers with the highest standards of service in the industry, and look forward to serving you in the near future." They believe that their disclaimer covers them in this situation, but I believe not. I paid Bompela in good faith for a service that I need and they took my money while being fully aware of their inability to deliver. This says volumes about the integrity of the company. Yes, Gautrain has been a technical success, but can it possibly be a sustainable form of transport when the operating company is this blatently dishonest? |
