Focus ST Wheel Bearing Failures

The front left wheel bearing on my 2011 Focus ST "moved" and caused the brake disc to rub on the caliper resulting in a seize-up at 100kmh without warning. The car had 22 000km on the clock and had just been serviced 2 weeks before by Ford. Luckily my wife was driving (not meant to sound bad but rather she drives fairly slowly!), but the incident caused the car to veer off the road onto the shoulder (could not steer it). I first though she had hit a pothole as the tyre and front rim were shot (probably from the damaged tar on the shoulder of the road). The Ford dealer who repaired the car found the bearing had shifted causing the lock up. +R16k later they gave me the car back (fixed under warranty).

I have tried to escalate this issue with Ford SA, but heard nothing back. My concern is that if this had been the front right wheel, the car could have veered into oncoming traffic (fatality/ies!!) and driver error would be blamed as there would not be much left of the front end to determine the fault. Ford put new bearings on both front wheels, but changed nothing else on the design. [URL Removed] A common fault.
