Charging on Scratches which were not related to us

It came to us with great dismay that Europcar handled this issue with no response.

we rented a car at Hobart airport on 19Nov11, Tasmania and returned it on 22Nov11 at Devonport, Tasmania. They checked there are some scratches on the bumper area and asked to fine us for AUD656. we said the scratches were present there when we took the car but they said we may not aware we may have made it. We were in a rush to take overnight ferry to Melbourne and we actually paid for that.

When we went back and looked at the photos we took on the first day we took the car, we found the scratches were already there!! we sent email to ask for refund, but there were no reply! i doubt they do business in such way! the rental cost was like AUD357 and they charged us something unrelated to us for another AUD656!!

totally unacceptable!!
