STAY AWAY

My son was admitted to hospital by a surgeon same day for an acute condition .. they don't pay the specialist, so that was R450.
Next, the doctor was uncertain as to  what procedure he would be doing, so the duration of his proposed stay was unclear.
No preauthorization.
In the end, I landed up with a bill of R9000 and more to come.
The "day to day" didn't pay for an emergency specialist consultation
The hospital plan won't pay for the hospital/ theatre as he elected to go home same day. I couldn't afford for him to stay.
If you read the fine print - you won't join this scheme. READ AND UNDERSTAND AND STAY AWAY! It isn't worth your premium.

Quite Impressed: I was contacted almost immediately after this post, by Nicole from Claims Administration for Essential Med. She's extremely professional, and has promised that my complaint would be looked into. Thus far, things appear to be moving in the right direction.
