I was surprised to learn after 8months that my application to change my child's surname was not processed. When I went back to Alice where I had applied, I was told that there was no record of my application. I wrote to the manager Mr. Skamen who said he would investigate but never got back to me. In the mean time I had to re-apply. On further inquiry, the acting manager Ms. Sokopo tried to pass the buck to Skamen, who was on leave at the time. I convinced her to write me a letter for my son's new school. On 9 January I went to the Alice DHA office coming from East London as per appointment with Ms. Sokopo, but she was nowhere to be found and no-one else knew about the letter. On 10 Jan I waited for about 30 mins for a letter she told me was ready the previous week. When she eventually printed it, both surnames were misspelt, though she had a computer printout with the correct spelling in front of her. The letter implied that I had not originally submitted all the documents and I told her to correct this lie. She made me wait again and there was an electricity trip which meant I had to wait for another hour. All the while I put up with her blase attitude, not even an apology |
