I own a plot in a well know development near Tygervalley Centre, the plots have been for sale for the past 5 years for the same price, (due to the unfortunate slump in the property market). So when the Property Valuations were announced i didn't pay much attention, as anybody with 2 brain cells/access to the internet can get the value on the plots in about 2 minutes. So imagine my horror when i while after the deadline for complaints over valuations, i opened my municipal account to discover, i not only have to pay a fee of over R70 p/m now for AVAILABILITY of water on a vacant plot, but my rates had gone from R31 p/m to R1200! I have contacted the municipality, even sent proof from their own website that their valuation of the plot is way off, but there has been no change to my account, except to bring the water availability down to R45 p/m. I wish my plot was worth R1300,000 but it's not, plus who pays R1200 rates on a property worth this amount, they said it's based on Commercial rates, WHY?? Houses in that price range pay around R400p/m, so this is just insanity. What can i do? |
