| After an accident on Sunday a claim was placed at Budget Insurance, the company I chose to move my Short term insurance and Life insurance to. Although the more expensive option i opted to try someone new and pay a monthly amount of R1477.00. On Tuesday Megan contacted me and informed me the total damage came to R6800, at the time she was still finalizing the claim. This morning I spoke to a lady called Samantha who informed me that my excess is R4100...so after paying a **** of a premium I am still asked to cover 2/3 of the claim...why??? | |||

Hello jvandenberg, Thank you for your comments. Your excess is the first amount payable when you claim as per the terms and conditions of your policy contract. In this instance the excess do make out a large percentage of your claim, but should you have suffered a total loss of the vehicle, the basic excess would have remained the same and the percentage would have looked much different compared to this instance.
