Caveat Emptor - The brand not always a guarantee

Thinking of buying an approved used BMW? I certainly would not, and I'd advise you to proceed with extreme caution. I bought a low mileage BMW approved premium "demo" vehicle, the salesperson assured me it was 100% fine, no accidents etc. etc. I paid fair market value on this understanding.

A few months later, I find out coincidentally (as a result of someone rear-ending my "approved used" BMW) that the car was in a previous major accident (over R100K repair bill)! This was logged on BMW Motorplan - it was on their system (which is how I found out), so they HAD to know.

Despite my efforts to get them involved, BMW South Africa wanted nothing to do with it, effectively just shrugging their shoulders, the dealer principal at BMW Northcliff (most probably no longer the same person as this was some time ago), despite being so clearly in the wrong, apparently could not rise above his customary slimy level of operating, so it turned into an ugly, protracted negotiation and in retrospect I certainly let them get away with way too much. I lost out, and it was my last BMW ever.
