Audi Clutch Failure and Repair |
|
I was driving my wife's Audi A3 (2009) when the clutch locked in the depressed state . I noticed a distinct "burnt rubber" smell, and the hand brake was definitely not engaged. I pulled over the side of the highway and smoke was coming off the gear box. After 2 hours Audi Roadside Repair was able to hire a tow, and after 3 days and constant calls to Audi central, Audi Rustenburg finally inpected my wife's vehicle. They verified our belief that the clutch was burned out, and stated it was due to driver error. They stated an Audi clutch has to be handled with such care, that one must never ride the clutch (clutch control) at stops. The car had just over 60, 000km (40k miles). We've been told that the repair would cost R14,000 ($1,800). With the number of similar posts I've found online, this seems to clearly be a design flaw in the Audi clutch. I'd also like to add, that this type of information needs to be presented to any potential buyer at every Audi dealer. We're waiting to see if our insurance or the Automobile Association of South Africa will go to bat for us on the faulty part.
