Account cancelled and still being charged

I signed up with ADT as the consultant led me to believe my alarm system just needed to be reset. Once the ADT serviceman came to install the arial and reset the alarm, he said that they don't know the system and that I would need to buy a new alarm. I am renting the house in which the alarm is situated and therefor I won't buy a new alarm. Now ADT will not put me through to the cancellations department but they say my account is cancelled. However I'm still being charged the monthly fee. I have not had an alarm running for January 2012 and therefore why should I pay for the service! And about twice weekly I still receive a message to test my alarm.
