I have a complaint regarding Wednesday 6 July 2011, Rob Vember's show. He was marketing a new product, some sort of 'anti-nagging' mouth spray. As a run-up to the official advertisement Rob Vember was talking about how this medicine could help men with their nagging women. He was referring specifically to how women nag their men about 'drinking, household chores and his general appearance'. As a woman it offended and disgusted me to hear a man being blatantly sexist on national radio. His stereotypical connection between women and nagging and house chores made me cringe. This is not a message that should be given to the youth or anybody else for that matter. It perpetuates negative stereotypes and attitudes towards women. It was plain to see,or hear, that these rants were unscripted. Only once he started reading the official advertisement were men included as being potential 'naggers'. This was obviously scripted (he was obviously reading off a piece of paper).After the official advert he started including men in his monologue. The only reason I am complaining is that this is not the first time he has been sexist. He has made a mockery about tampon and pad ads on TV too! |
